Reading Between the Lines

I know I haven’t been updating my trip blog as often as I should, but I am realizing that I am leaving a lot of things between the lines. But honestly, it just doesn’t seem right to spend all my time while in a tropical paradise hunched over my laptop (i do it anyway). I mean between all  the images and the infrequent updates, I would think you get the point that I am having a blast down here in Uganda and Kenya. But that’s not entirely the truth.

Truth is, I landed here with no expectations. And this whole trip has been nothing but good memories. I’ve been inspired like no time before. So instead of writing about everything, I thought I’d leave the juicy bits for my new book I am writing. Yes, you read that right. I started a new book – wait, I say started a “new” book as if I am a published author. The inside joke there is that I am an expert at starting things. Then right before I perfect them, just before I realize the full potential of my new skill, I abandon it for something else more challenging. But not this time.

This whole trip has really pointed out to me that I don’t take my skills seriously sometimes. One of the skills that I don’t use regularly or pay attention to is my writing. I have the potential to be a good writer, and an accomplished published writer – if I can EVER finish what I start. I have at least a dozen literary ideas that I have started and quickly left hanging like a badly punched chad.No more. This trip gave me loads of inspiration to write. I have a lot of thoughts I want to put on paper. All this is to say that I have been writing, its just that I have not been publishing anything on this blog. I am saving some juicy bits for the book. So, if anyone knows a good editor I can send a rough draft to, please, hit me up. Let’s get that advance check written. I promise not to become a learned scholar who does not cavort with laymen brain activity. See there, that’s an almost convincing sentence.
