Random Acts of Penmanship Turns One

Hard to believe but this here wee little bitty blog just turned one year’s old. Back in January I was covering the impending launch of Apple’s iPhone and all the fake wannabe phones that sprung up. I’ve covered a lot of topics and while browsing through my previous posts I noticed that I sure did have some fun in ’07. So let’s do a quick recap shalls we:

I went snow-boarding with some of my buddies from high school in March, that was a blast. Actually I haven’t heard if we are going again this year. If we are, I am so up for it. I think snowboarding is my new adrenaline rush!

Then my sister graduated… in Hawaii! That was a blast! Which reminds me incidentally, I still need to order her graduation present! DOH! I think that was around the time that Project Diaspora was born. I remember calling Tracy1314 while I was on a layover in San Francisco, about a great feature that would be awesome on the diaspora site—still in the works!

Then there was the trip to Tempe where I bought my iPhone on day two of it’s release in June of ’07. Just waltzed into the Apple store and grabbed two. Been playing with it ever since!

Two months later I packed up my apartment and boarded a plane for a three month jaunt through East Africa. I don’t regret it one bit cause I met my beautiful girlfriend… and yes, I know I don’t talk about her a lot. Yes, she’s real. No, she’s not a blow up doll. Jokers.

I also started my new book, if you’ve been reading closely, some of the excepts are right here on this blog. I’ll be sneaking them in from time to time. Keep your eyes focused.

Nairobi SunsetOh yeah, I also took one or two really good photographs. You might have seen them, here and there. I am just saying…

Let’s see, what else did I do? Oh yeah, I stopped off in Kenya finally after a twenty-year absence. Glad I did it then and not now. Sheesh, that would have been scary to live through.

I flew back just in time for the annual Dallas Cowboys Family Cookbook near-suicidal-production-madness (in stores now, the book, not the madness).

Project Diaspora launched shortly after that. It’s been improving steadily. We’ll be formalizing it’s development and putting some real money into it’s continued growth (read: ten dollars here, five dollars there, a penny here and there) Actually, we’ll start accepting donations here pretty soon. Every cent will help.

So there you have it. One super exciting year. I know, I know, I know, what you are thinking. What’s in store for this year? What cool things are you going to be doing for those of us that actually don’t read your blog?

Well, first off, I am shooting a wedding this week in Wichita Falls. I am not quite sure if I have ever been there or not. I guess I will find out. Then right after that I am boarding another plane on a multi-leg journey around the world in six days! No, I kid, I kid. But I will be stopping off in Oslo, London, Entebbe, Kampala and Masindi. I’ll be back in time to hit the slopes if there’s any snow left. If not, I’ll try to catch some late season runs on the slopes in Norway. Which reminds me, I really need to study up on my Norwegian. (Have you ever noticed that Norwegian and Finnish look like a typewriter exploded and someone tried to glue the words back together? But don’t worry, I’ll stop and take a few shorts for your amusement!

Other than that, I’ll be taking it day by day. Oh wow, almost forgot, I am going to start gutting the plumbing on this site. I’ve been playing with CSS over at PD, and I think I finally have my head around the concept and functionality of WordPress CSS assembly. Good thing this is my personal blog. I get to break it to bits and throw fits of rage while i try to coax the code to do what i want. I don’t have a timeline on this, but look for some on-going outages on this site as I continue the customization process.

i will have my first one-man show this summer in Lubbock. I haven’t decided if i am going to do photography from my collection or tackle a whole new medium entirely. Stay tuned though.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
