Oslo or bust

Well, technically Tønsberg, Norway. I have to say that I had my doubts when the plane landed on a dreary Thursday evening. I say evening loosely because it gets dark at 4:30pm. I got off the plane thinking man, where did the day go. I’d spent about six hours walking around Amsterdam in early hours of the day. As can be imagined, there’s almost nothing going on in that town at 9 am. I got small glimpse of the fjords, windmills (some as far as several miles out into the Atlantic Ocean). I still can’t figure out how those things are anchored out in the middle of no where. But if anyone is going to plant a farm of windmills in the middle of an Ocean, why not the Dutch, right?

But enough about Holland, Tønsberg on second site is actually a beautiful, sleepy little town of less than 40,000 residents. Well, add one wayward Ugandan to that total. News on the wire has it that there’s another Ugandan here, though I have yet to catch site of him. My guess is that he’s hiding by a warm fire. This isn’t a place for a tropical inhabitant. And if he is out somewhere, he’d be easy to see, I mean come on, this is not exactly Compton. You can spot a black guy from a mile away sticking out like a sore thumb among the ancient building. Sometimes I was feel like I took a wrong turn in Albuquerque. Now I know how Bugs Bunny felt. What’s funny though is the locals here pretty much don’t pay attention to you. Nice. I’ll take a low-profile vacation any day.

So, I am finally over the jetlag induced sleepiness, I am planning a ski trip in the next week or so with Hilde. Maybe I’ll manage to raise a few eyebrows. I mean common, how many Ugandan do you know that strap on snowboards and go shrieking down a mountain for no good reason. Wait, back up. How many black people do you know that would actually be in spitting distance of a mountain. Ok, Ok, now how many Ugandans? Uh huh, thought so. But hey, somebody’s gotta represent!

Kowabanga dudes! OMG! I can’t believe I just said that. Out loud.

Hi Sharon,

yeah, I am having a blast! I’ll find out when and where the snowboarding trip sometime this week. I can’t wait! By the way, Aspen’s pic in the gallery is getting the nod from a lot of people, you really should print out her head shots and take them to an agent. See you soon, no worries about the call….

Hey!
That is definitely on my to do list!! I can’t wait to see your ski trip pictures! I hope you at least have a small take along camera to get some shots without working about damaging your real camera! How is Boomer doing? He must be missing you! I got a 2nd dog – 8 month old black Miniature poodle named Baxter. He is Aspen’s dog, very sweet, comical and full of energy. Pooka doesn’t like him too much but as long as I give Pooka a lot of love he is dealing pretty well to it all. Have a great trip and keep up the blogs and picture posting, I love hearing and seeing your adventures!

Here’s an image for ya . . . how about the Ugandan national ice hockey team competing in a future winter Olympics. That would be so freakin’ awesome! People made such a big deal about the Jamaican bobsled team in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. A Ugandan in the winter X Games shredding a half pipe. How about the next Ice Capades production of “Africans On Ice”. Somebody stop me . . .

Michael,
Stop it, you are killing me. I think I could get a ton of Press if I ever took on Shawn Michaels in the half-pipe during the Olympics, but it would be killer to show that Aficans can do anything, given the opportunity. And since no one is giving us the opportunity, we have to go and grab them by the horns….

I’ll be back in Dallas on the 28th, let’s grab some coffee….
